What i learned in IS121 is that technology really helps a lot in today’s generation, i also learned how to analyze more things like analyzing a problem of a company and giving a solution to it. And information systems helps a lot in businesses today by solving some problems.

1. Why is parts inventory management so important at southwest airlines? What business processes are affected by the airlines ability or inability to have a required parts on hand?

Parts inventory management is important in southwest airlines because if they needed the parts urgently they’ll just check their inventory of parts if they still have the needed parts, the affected business processes here in southwest airlines are their flights, because some of the flights may be delayed or moved on the other day.

2. Why management, organization and technology factors were responsible for southwest’s problems with inventory management?

The management and organization are the one who handles the parts inventory management and they are the responsible for the problems, with technology theyre the one who checks the datas of the available parts in the inventory.

3. How did implementing the i2 software change the way southwest ran its business?

It changed the way southwest’s airlines business by making some of their problems can be easily solved, like looking for the parts they need as soon as possible.

4. Describe two decisions that were improved by implementing the i2 system.

First, they were able to avoid some of the flights to be delayed or moved. then second,  it will be easier for them to find the parts that they needed in their cost range and at the best quality.

1. What concepts in the chapter are illustrated in this case?

Walmart and Amazon are considered the biggest in retail marketing. Amazon been always a leader in on-line retail, while walmart was and still a leader in physical retail where physical stores spread widely across regions and countries that provides a low competitive price.

Walmart stepped further and went beyond its physical stores to offer retail marketplace that sells various goods and merchandise online. Both companies are doing their best to improve their services to provide convinient solution, low prices and variety of products to gain market share.

The concepts illustrated in this case:
A. Utilizing company’s set of software such as ERP solutions, databases and business processes to collet data from various departments to achieve operational excellence, customer intimacy, and assist in decision making.

B. Analyzing activities and categories them into primary and secondary activities to introduce competitive strategies.

C. Benchmarking services and finding best practices to improve services.

D. Analyzing general view of the firm, competitors and environment to highlight traditional competitors, new market entrants, substitute services/products, customers and suppliers.

Supply chain management system automate the flow of information among members of the supply chain so they can use it to make better decisions about when and how much to purchase, produce or ship. More accurate information from supply chain management systems reduces uncertainty and the impact of the bullwhip effect. Supply chain management  software includes software for supply chain planning and for supply chains by providing the connectivity for organizations in different countries to share supply chain information. Improved communication among supply chain members also facilitates efficient customer response and movement toward a demand-driven model.

3. What are the management, organization, and technology factors that have contributed to the success of both Wal-Mart and Amazon?

The management, organization and technology factors that contributed to the success of Walmart is because of their own strategies. They maintain cost and savings budget equally and they always order new items whenever the item is done. Also they try to avoid unnecessary products and out of expiry date products out of the store. Also the staff management also contributed a lot to their success because they were well experienced and organized under their managers. They also follow growth management strategy in increasing their stores across various places around the world. They also keep monthly/annual and festive offers to attract the customers and improve their sales which comes under people management strategy.

4. Where would you prefer to make your Internet purchases amazon or walmart. Com? Why?

Amazon, the product are more complete than walmart and it has special category for the book as the main job.

Q: 1. Colombia is a small, independent island in the Caribbean. It wants to develop its tourist industry  and attract more visitors. The island has many historical buildings, forts, and other sites, along with rainforests and striking mountains. A few first class hotels and several dozen less expensive accommodations can be found along its beautiful white sand beaches. The major airlines have regular flights to Colombiana, as do several small airlines. Colombiana’s government wants to increase tourism and develop new markets for the country’s tropical agricultural products. How can a Web presence help? What Internet business model would be appropriate?  What functions should the website perform?

A:
They could hire a web developer to make a website about the tourist’s attractions in colombia then they could also add the nearest hotels in the nearest tourist attractions that inputs the hotel price range based on the tourist budgets. And then they could also put some background history in the website about the colombia and their attractions that can make the tourists to visit them.
